Advanced/Canine Good Citizen Classes

15.02.17

The Advanced Classesare designed around the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC and CGCA) Program. The CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
The CGC part of the program focuses on dog manners and obedience such as sit, stay, down, leave it, recall (come), loose leash walking and paying attention (watch me). We will also work on basic household manners and polite behavior in the presence of people and other dogs in a variety of situations. Once skills are mastered and performed consistently, handler/dog teams will be prepared to take the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test to earn a certificate and title from the American Kennel Club.

Community Canine/Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA)
If you have ever thought about taking your dog out in the community, visiting a hospital, retirement home, veteran facility, library or special needs classroom at a school, this is the class for you.
The CGCA part of the program will expand upon the CGC requirements and focuseson skills owners and their dogs will use in various locations throughout the community. Distance, duration and distractions will increase as dogs learn and practice dog manners and obedience. Once skills are mastered and performed consistently, handler/dog teams will be prepared to take the Community Canine (CGCA) Test to earn a certificate and title from the American Kennel Club and/or the Therapy Dog International (TDI) test.
